िववािहत स् तर्ी को आपरािधक आशय सेफुसलाकर लेजाना, या लेजाना या िनरु रखना—जो कोई िकसी स् तर्ी को, जो िकसी अन्य पुरुष की पत् नी है, और िजसका अन्य पुरुष की पत् नी होना वह जानता है, या िवश् वास करनेका कारण रखता है, उस पुरुष के पास से, या िकसी ऐसे᳞िक् त केपास से, जो उस पुरुष की ओर सेउसकी देखरेख करता है, इस आशय सेलेजाएगा, या फुसलाकर ले जाएगा िक वह िकसी ᳞िक् त केसाथ अयुक् त संभोग करेया इस आशय सेऐसी िकसी स् तर्ी को िछपाएगा या िनरु करेगा, वह दोनᲂ मᱶसे िकसी भांित केकारावास से, िजसकी अविध दो वषर्तक की हो सकेगी, या जुमार्नेसे, या दोनᲂ से, दिण्डत िकया जाएगा ।

िकसी स् तर्ी केपित या पित केनातदार े ᳇ारा उसकेपर्ित कर्ूरता करना—जो कोई, िकसी स् तर्ी का पित या पित का नातेदार होतेहुए, ऐसी स् तर्ी केपर्ित कर्ूरता करेगा, वह कारावास से, िजसकी अविध तीन वषर्तक की हो सकेगी, दिण्डत िकया जाएगा और जुमार्ने सेभी दण्डनीय होगा ।
स्पष् टीकरण—इस धारा केपर्योजनᲂ केिलए, “कर्ूरता” सेिनम् निलिखत अिभपर्ेत है—
(क) जानबूझकर िकया गया कोई आचरण जो ऐसी पर्कृित का हैिजससेउस स् तर्ी को आत्महत्या करनेकेिलए पर्ेिरत करने की या उस स् तर्ी केजीवन, अंग या स्वास्थ्य की (जो चाहेमानिसक हो या शारीिरक) गंभीर क्षित या खतरा कािरत करनेकेिलए उसेकरनेकी सम्भावना है ; या
(ख) िकसी स् तर्ी को तंग करना, जहांउसेया उससेसम्बिन्धत िकसी ᳞िक् त को िकसी सम्पिᱫ या मूल्यवान पर्ितभूित केिलए िकसी िविधिवरु मांग को पूरी करनेकेिलए पर्पीिड़त करने की दृिष् ट सेया उसकेअथवा उससेसंबंिधत िकसी ᳞िक् त केऐसेमांग पूरी करनेमᱶअसफल रहनेकेकारण इस पर्कार तंग िकया जा रहा है।]

Section 498
Enticing or taking away or detaining with criminal intent a married woman.—Whoever takes or entices away any woman who is and whom he knows or has reason to believe to be the wife of any other man, from that man, or from any person having the care of her on behalf of that man, with intent that she may have illicit intercourse with any person, or conceals or detains with that intent any such woman, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.
Section 498A – CRUELTY BY HUSBAND OR RELATIVES OF HUSBAND
Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty.—Whoever, being the husband or the relative of the husband of a woman, subjects such woman to cruelty shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years and shall also be liable to fine.
Explanation.—For the purposes of this section, “cruelty” means—
(a) anywilful conduct which is of such a nature as is likely to drive the woman to commit suicide or to cause grave injury or danger to life, limb or health (whether mental or physical) of the woman; or
(b) harassment of the woman where such harassment is with a view to coercing her or any person related to her to meet any unlawful demand for any property or valuable security or is on account of failure by her or any person related to her to meet such demand.]
